At the HWC, we empower wāhine to take ownership of their physical, mental, and spiritual health through a range of services, resources, and activities. If you’ve been through a challenging time, we can arrange affordable counselling sessions with qualified and respectful professionals.
Our monthly programme also offers you regular opportunities to work on your physical health. Have fun moving your body in one of our accessible wellness classes or pop into our health sessions where you can learn more about issues affecting women’s health such as breast cancer and cervical screenings.
The HWC is Hawke’s Bay only facilitator of the SuperSkills programme (formerly SuperGrans); a free, nationwide service that supports wāhine to develop life skills through one-on-one mentoring and workshops.
After speaking with our SuperSkills co-ordinator, you’ll be matched with a suitable mentor who can help you reach your goals. Whether you’d like to learn about cooking healthy meals on a budget, or how to write your CV and nail job interviews, we’ll find you the perfect SuperSkills mentor.
We’ve also recently partnered with Women of Worth to help women in Hawke’s Bay recognise their worth. Through a range of online and in-person workshops and courses, Women of Worth programmes teach wāhine tools in self-belief and confidence.
One of the key reasons women love our Centre is the sense of community it gives them. Our jam-packed activity programme gives you a chance to connect and bond with women from all walks of life over shared interests.
Whether you’re looking for a community of crafters, or you want to make some mother/grandmother friends over a coffee, we’ve got you covered. For casual but meaningful conversations, take a break from work and pop into the Centre for lunch, or join our monthly community mealtimes.
We offer free legal consultations every Tuesday from our welcoming Centre. From family law to your rights as an employee, our qualified lawyers will give you invaluable advice. You can book an appointment by phone, email, or in person at the centre.
We have a fantastic network of advocacy agencies in the Hawke’s Bay region. So, if you need further support after your legal consultation, we’ll point you in the right direction.
If you’re an emerging or established artist, consider displaying your work in our large, well-lit hallway for a couple of weeks. It’s free to use the space to exhibit and sell your work, we simply charge a 20% commission on any work sold during this time.
Our Centre library is well-stocked with books on a range of topics from parenting and relationships to stress management and personal development. Feel free to pop in during Centre opening hours Monday to Friday to browse and borrow a book through our confidential lending service.
