How We Help

Whatever you’ve been through, whatever you’re dealing with now, we’ll meet you where you are and find you the support needed to get you working towards the life you want.

How we support you

We can support you in all areas of your life. From safe spaces for reflection and connection to personal and professional development activities, our purpose is to enhance and advocate for your wellbeing and empowerment. To help you find the support you need, we’ve broken down our services and activities into 5 focus areas: Women’s Health & Wellness, Personal Growth, Mentorship, Connection, and Advocacy.

Women's Health and Wellness

Promoting wellness in wāhine

At the HWC, we empower wāhine to take ownership of their physical, mental, and spiritual health through a range of services, resources, and activities. If you’ve been through a challenging time, we can arrange affordable counselling sessions with qualified and respectful professionals.

Our monthly programme also offers you regular opportunities to work on your physical health. Have fun moving your body in one of our accessible wellness classes or pop into our health sessions where you can learn more about issues affecting women’s health such as breast cancer and cervical screenings.

Personal Growth

Providing opportunities for personal growth and self-development to enhance and enrich different areas of your life
We support every woman who comes into our centre to achieve their full potential. Join our group workshops and one-to-one activities and develop how you see yourself and the world around you. Take your personal growth into your own hands by making use of our extensive library of personal development resources. Whether you want to read about health, parenting, or stress management, we have a book you can borrow to read in your own time.

Mentorship

Creating relationships that support the transfer and development of skills and knowledge

The HWC is Hawke’s Bay only facilitator of the SuperSkills programme (formerly SuperGrans); a free, nationwide service that supports wāhine to develop life skills through one-on-one mentoring and workshops.

After speaking with our SuperSkills co-ordinator, you’ll be matched with a suitable mentor who can help you reach your goals. Whether you’d like to learn about cooking healthy meals on a budget, or how to write your CV and nail job interviews, we’ll find you the perfect SuperSkills mentor.

We’ve also recently partnered with Women of Worth to help women in Hawke’s Bay recognise their worth. Through a range of online and in-person workshops and courses, Women of Worth programmes teach wāhine tools in self-belief and confidence.

Connection

Offering opportunities for wāhine to come together and participate in shared interests and activities

One of the key reasons women love our Centre is the sense of community it gives them. Our jam-packed activity programme gives you a chance to connect and bond with women from all walks of life over shared interests.

Whether you’re looking for a community of crafters, or you want to make some mother/grandmother friends over a coffee, we’ve got you covered. For casual but meaningful conversations, take a break from work and pop into the Centre for lunch, or join our monthly community mealtimes.
