I need this place. It’s good for me. It gives me hope, courage and strength

The Heretaunga Women’s Centre is a not-for-profit Incorporated Society and relies on donations to be able to offer a range of services. There are many ways to support the Centre, from one-off donations, to regular giving arrangements, bequests and legacies, and partnerships with local organisations. Your support truly makes a difference to the women in our community.

Walking with a Woman

Every year, the Heretaunga Women’s Centre  (HWC) provides low cost and often no cost counselling service to women in Hastings and broader Hawkes Bay area. Women frequently come to us because they are unable to pay for counselling (average costs for sessions with other professional counsellors are from $100 to $200.00 per session).  Our kaupapa is to never to turn anyone away who is in need. We are very lucky to have recently employed a full time counsellor Jenny Whitehead. Jenny has a degree in counselling and has worked in the family violence area. She is passionate about the safety and wellbeing of women and children.  Having a full time counsellor on site is a fantastic resource for the centre.  It means women can call or come to the centre, receive advice and be seen quickly if their need is urgent.  We also have several counsellors who volunteer at the centre, all of whom are fully qualified and volunteer their time to support women in need in our community.

As well as applying for grants for our full time counsellor, the centre also pays for monthly clinical supervision for all our counsellors. The Heretaunga Women’s Centre has no government funding or contracts to provide these services so we rely solely on community funding. To enable our service to be viable the HWC needs to make a minimum of $50.00 per counselling session. Our “Walking With Woman” programme gives the community the opportunity to support a woman with a series of 6 counselling sessions. Your $250.00 donation will support a woman through 6 counselling sessions- we always offer the first session for free.

Alternatively, you can also make a $100.00 donation to support a woman to complete a 10 week term course here at the centre. Our courses can include alternative therapies, health workshops, mental wellbeing classes,  exercise classes, language courses, parenting classes, fun social activities, craft workshops and  much much more.

Please contact us if you want to find out more about how you can support a woman.

Regular giving

Some employers offer a ‘payroll giving’ service which gives you the opportunity to donate money directly from your pay to the Centre, and at the same time receive immediate tax credits. Not all organisations offer this option so please check with your employer to see if this is something they can support.

Bequests and legacies

Remembering the Heretaunga Women’s Centre in your Will is a wonderful way to leave a positive legacy for the future.  This legacy will be used to continue to support women in our local community. We are also happy to have a confidential, no-obligation chat, about how your bequest could make difference.

Corporate partnerships

We welcome relationships with local businesses that have similar goals to our own. It’s a chance for your business to get involved with the community and raise your profile. In return, your ongoing support allows us to continue delivering our much-loved programmes to the women of Hawke’s Bay. We’re very open to discussing how our organisations can work together for our mutual benefit. If you would like to discuss how we can work together, please get in touch.
